Day 29

I had a great ride again today. It started in the campground where I spent the night. There was a huge family reunion there this weekend and they gave us fresh and good coffee! Always a great rway to start the day.

Sancho (my bike) and my coffee mug with donated coffee taking a break at the top of a climb

Overall the ride was climbing in elevation with 5 “hills” to ride up. There was a bit of a headwind but not too much trouble. We had 11 miles of road construction at the beginning – but it was no issue. Saw soooo many antelope and several bald eagles.  Also saw the western side of the snow covered Rocky Mountains.  They are were quite majestic for sure.

Right after entering Colorado, a thunderstorm popped up that gave a quick cold soaking, but it also changed the wind direction so that as I went up the last climb it shoved me up the road at a great pace even with a 7% incline! Pretty much dodged the rest of the storm and had lunch in an RV campground store. Had a great chat with the owner who bought the place a few years ago. With the wind change – it made the ride to Walden an easy 12 miles.

Excellent museum of the Walden area. 27 rooms of stuff from pioneer days to the 1980’s.

In Walden I stopped at the coolest museum I have seen. It has 27 rooms of things from the 1800’s to 1980’s. Much of it was donated by local residents.  If you are ever in Walden you MUST stop. It’s amazing.  I just wish I had more time to spend there.

Overall a fun day! It was a 48 miles so a shorter day to rest the legs. Tomorrow (Day 30) will be over 70 miles and has a big climb to over 9,600’

What is funny is that no matter how many miles are ridden. When 9pm comes it’s time for bed! So that’s the plan right now!!
