It was bound to happen…
Yep when I spent time planning this trip, looking at maps and weather, reading info about this part of the TransAmerica Trail, watching videos, I knew there was a good chance for lots of days with headwinds. So far I have had snow, hail, rain, clouds, and sun. I have had a couple days of tail winds that we awesome. But today was the headwind day. Of course it was a day with 72 miles on the ride and gentle climbing all day…
So starting at mile 1, it was a struggle. Slow riding and difficult to keep a good pace. Legs were still tired from the past couple days too. Overall had 33 miles of strong consistent headwinds. Then about 15 miles of tailwinds – but this is when we were climbing hills in a deep canyon. About 16 miles of mixed head and side winds. And then the last 8 were uphill against the wind.

Not the most enjoyable day physically. Shorter day tomorrow to recover. Plus went to a place with all you can eat Pasta. I did eat a lot of pasta and bread.
Despite the leg killing ride – got to see beautiful mountains, meet near folks at our camp ground, had sun and good width for the shoulder on the roads. Still a good day. Still a blessed day!
Into Yellowstone National Park for day 21. Good night all!
